Asymmetries in Extraction from English Complement Small Clauses

In this squib, I discuss asymmetries in extraction and Case valuation between English perception small clauses and epistemic small clauses. I argue that Φ-feature agreement within the small clause plays an important role in constraining A-movement of the subject. I also show, based on Condition C effects and subextraction, that the subject of perception small clauses gets Case valuation inside the small clause, whereas the subject of epistemic small clauses gets Case valuation in the matrix clause.
