리오타르의 『포스트모던의 조건』에 나타난 지식의 개방적 성격과 대학교육

Open Knowledge and Higher Education viewed on Lyotard's 『La Condition postmoderne』

오늘날 대학에서 전달하는 지식의 양과 종류가 폭발적으로 증대되고 융복합과 영역 넘나들기가 보편화되면서 대학교육에 대한 논의의 필요성이 증대되고 있다. 리오타르의 『포스트모던의 조건』은 지식의 위상이 변화되고 지식교육의 지향점이 변화하는 것에 대해 분석한다. 그러면서 모던의 대학교육을 비판하고 선진사회에 부응하는 새로운 대학교육에 주목한다. 훔볼트에 대한 리오타르의 비판적 고찰을 참고할 때, 모던적 패러다임을 따르는 대학교육의 지향점, 즉 지식교육을 통한 인간성의 완성이라는 목적은 정당성을 보증해주지 못하게 된다. 이러한 상황에서 포스트모던의 대학교육은 보편성과 통합이라는 이상을 포기하는 대신 차이, 개별성과 다양성에 바탕을 둔 지식교육을 지향해야 한다는 것이다. 하지만 훔볼트의 대학교육에 대한 전반적인 비판은 모던의 대학에 대한 완전한 거부와 차단으로 이해되어서는 안 된다. 두 패러다임 속의 대학교육의 모습의 차이를 인정하더라도 그 속에 존재하는 연속성 또한 인정할 수밖에 없기 때문이다. 따라서 포스트모던의 대학에서 모던의 대학교육 이념이 새롭게 재해석되고 재구조화될 때 새로운 대학교육의 가능성으로 계승ㆍ극복ㆍ발전될 수 있다.

The university of today is continually changing and also being demanded to change strongly. Quantity of knowledge is increasing and types of study dealt with in university are diversifying. Further, each study is interacted widely and researched convergently. Moreover, deliberate crossing boundary which pulls down a strict distinction and originality of domain of knowledge gets settled as universal phenomenon. Thus, university teaches specialized knowledges, and on the other, it tries to react with agility to newly emerging post-modern society. University education has no choice but to be dependent on an external situation because it has no choice but to exist in close connection with social system. Nevertheless, it can't throw away the responsibility for educational purpose and ideals of modern like humanity, morality, creativity, and individuality. As a result, the university education of today is facing with a problem to define identity and role in intersection or mixture of two paradigms, which are modern and post-modern. Lyotard is just suggesting some features of post-modern. So it is more resonable to take a note to fundamental opposition and contents which Lyotard wants to reveal by it than to depend on the oppositional concept of modern and post-modern. In that point of view, Humboldt's article, 『Über die innere und äußere Organisation der höheren wissenschaftlichen Anstalten in Berlin』 can play an important role as reference to find out what 『La Condition postmoderne』 tries to overcome or transform. Then it is better for the sake of concreteness of discussion to compare Homboldt's educational concept with Lyotard's one.
