가족배경과 초ㆍ중기 청소년의 학교적응

The Family Backgrounds and The School Adjustments of Early and Mid-stage Adolescents

본 연구는 가족배경이 청소년의 학교적응에 초래하는 불평등에 주목하되, 성별 및 발달단계에 따른 유사성과 차이점을 관찰하였다. 이를 위해, 한국청소년정책연구원의 <한국 아동ㆍ청소년 패널 조사> 1, 2차 자료 중 2011년 시점에서 초등학교 5학년생 및 중학교 2학년생들과 그들의 양육자에 관한 자료를 분석하였다. t-검증과 분산분석, 상관분석, 그리고 위계적 회귀분석을 활용하여 분석한 결과, 청소년의 학교적응에 있어서 양육방식 만으로 설명될 수 없는 차이가 실재하고 그 상당 부분이 가족배경으로 인해 빚어짐을 확인하였다. 다만 학교적응의 네 차원 중 학업태도와 교우관계 수준 및 교사와의 관계가 다양한 가족배경에 의해 좌우되는 반면, 규범 준수성은 가족배경으로부터 비교적 자유로운 것으로 나타났다. 가족배경이란 청소년의 자질이나 선택에 의한 것이 아니고 또한 개별 가족이 원한다고 해도 쉽사리 변화시키기 힘든 특성들이므로, 가족배경으로 인한 차이를 해소시키는 것은 사회적 책임이다. 따라서 가족의 경제적 지위와 지역적 차이 그리고 가족 구성에 따른 불평등과 소외에 관심을 두고, 그로 인한 학교적응 격차를 감소시키기 위해 다각적이고 지속적인 사회ㆍ정책적 노력을 기울여야 한다.

This study focuses on the relationship of the family backgrounds with the adolescents' school adjustments. It also examines the similarities and the differences between girls and boys, and between the early adolescents(5th graders) and the mid-stage adolescents(8th graders). The data used in this study is the Korean Panel Data of Child and Youth - Wave 1 & Wave 2, collected by the National Youth Policy Institute. The study utilizes t-test, ANOVA, correlation, and the hierarchical regression analysis technique. The school adjustment is measured in 4 dimensions - the level of class attitude, the relationship with peers, the relationship with teachers, and the school rule observance. It is observed that there is inequality in adolescents' school adjustments influenced by the family backgrounds. Among the four dimensions of school adjustments, the rule observance is relatively free from the family backgrounds while the other three are significantly related with the various family background variables. The family background is not what adolescents can choose but what is randomly given to them, and it is hardly changeable even if individual families want to. Therefore, the result of the analysis signifies the existence of inequality in the life chance of adolescents, which should be reduced by the extensive and intensive efforts in societal level.
