Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1) and Cognitive Function in the Elderly

연구배경: 연령이 증가함에 따라 인지기능이 떨어지는 현상을 흔하게 접하게 된다. 노화에 따른 호르몬 변화 중 성장호르몬의 감소는 노화와 밀접한 관련성을 보이고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 노인에서 혈중 IGF-1과 인지기능과의 관련성을 알아보고자 하였다. 방법: 건강증진센터를 방문한 60세 이상 185명에게 신체계측 및 혈액검사와 더불어 IGF-1을 측정하였다. 인지기능을 평가하기 위하여 Korean Dementia Screening Questionnaire (KDSQ)와 단축형 Samsung Dementia Questionnaire (S-SDQ) 등을 이용하였고, 우울 등 감정기능을 평가하기 위하여 Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS)을 이용하였다. IGF-1을 중심으로 신체계측 및 혈액검사, 인지기능, 우울평가 등을 상관관계를 분석하였다. 결과: IGF-1과 신체계측 중 신장, 혈압은 관련성이 없었으나 체중은 연관성이 있었다. 혈액검사상 혈당, 신장기능, 간기능은 IGF-1과 관련성이 없었으나, 헤모글로빈과 콜레스테롤, 중성지방은 IGF-1과 유의한 연관성을 보였다. IGF-1과 인지기능 검사간에는 관련성을 보이지 않았으며, 하부항목들과의 상관관계도 유의한 관련성을 보이지 않았다. 단일변량분석에서 유의한 상관성을 보였던 변수들과 인지기능 등 관련 변수들을 독립변수로 선택하여 IGF-1에 대한 다중회귀분석을 실시한 결과, 연령, 신장은 IGF-1과 관련성이 없었으며, 체중만이 IGF-1과 관련성을 보였다. 그 외 인지기능이나 노인우울검사도 관련성이 없었으며, 단일변량 분석에서 관련성을 보였던 혈액검사상 헤모글로빈, 콜레스테롤 등도 다른 요인들을 고려한 다중회귀분석에서는 관련성을 보이지 않았다. 결론: 건강한 노인에서 IGF-1 수준은 체중과는 연관성이 있었으나, 혈액검사나 우울 등 노인의 감정기능과 연관성이 없었으며, 인지기능과도 관련성이 없는 것으로 보인다.

Background: Cognitive function and insulin-like factor 1 (IGF-1) is known to decline with aging. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between IGF-1 and cognitive function. Methods: This study population consisted of a sample of 185 healthy participants from a health promotion center, aged 60 or older. They were evaluated by IGF-1, short form of the Samsung Dementia Questionnaire (S-SDQ), Korean Dementia Screening Questionnaire (KDSQ), and Korean Mini Mental State Examination (K-MMSE). Results: The subjects' mean age was 65.7 years and their mean IGF-1 level was 222.5 ng/ml. We found that IGF-1 was correlated with their body weight, hemoglobin and serum cholesterol, whereas IGF-1 wast not associated with cognitive function in the univariate analysis. Through multiple regression analysis, IGF-1 levels seemed to be associated with theri body weight. There was no association of IGF-1 levels to hemoglobin, serum cholesterol, and cogntive function. Conclusion: In this study of healthy older men and women, IGF-1 level was associated with there body weight. We could not find any association between IGF-1 levels and cogntive function.
