푸코의 주체화

Subjectivation of Foucault

본 논문은 푸코의 후기 저작에 드러난 주체화를 탐구하여, 탈근대적인 주체의 개념화를 시도한다. 푸코는 주체철학과 인간주의를 거부하였으나, 이는 근대의 주체 개념을 비판하려는 것이었지, 주체 개념을 해체하거나 외면하기 위한 것은 아니었다. 그는 고대의 담론을 분석하여, 인간이 스스로를 인식하고, 스스로와 관계 맺는 낯선 방식, 즉 "자기 인식"과 "자기 배려"의 방식을 보여준다. 푸코를 따라 주체화의 역사를 재구성하는 작업은 스스로 형성하는 주체의 가능성을 밝히는 작업으로 귀결된다. 본 논문은 다음과 같이 구성된다. 첫째, 주체를 권력 관계에서 탐구하며, 둘째, 고대 담론에서 찾아낸 "자기의 테크놀로지"가 주체화의 한 방식인지를 밝힌다. 셋째, 위의 두 탐구를 근거로 자유로운 윤리적 주체의 가능성을 모색한다. 이러한 고찰을 통하여, 푸코의 주체 개념 비판이 연속성을 지니며, 나아가 스스로를 지배하는 윤리적 주체라는 새로운 개념화로 이어짐이 드러난다.

In this thesis, I try to conceptualize the post-modern subject through the study of Foucault's "subjectivation" in his later works. Foucault rejected subjective philosophies and humanism in order to criticize them, not to dissolve or neglect them. By investigation of the ancient discourse, he showed that how the man had recognized himself and had been related to himself. Foucault's work to reconstruct the history of the subjectivation is led to clarify the possibility of new concept of the subject; the subject formed by oneself. This thesis is composed of 1) study of the relation of the subject with the power, 2) research of "the technology of the self" as a kind of "subjectivation", 3) on the based of these, seeking the possibility of the formed subject by oneself. Consequently it is manifested that Foucault's criticism of the concepts of the subject has continuity and also he conceptualizes the ethical subject dominated by oneself.
