우치무라 간조(内村鑑三)의 사회사상에 관한 소고(小考)

A Study of Uchimura Kanzo's Social Thought

청일전쟁이 끝난 뒤 일본의 산업구조는 크게 변화했고, 사회운동의 무대가 열렸다. 급속한 자본주의 성장과 함께 새롭게 등장한 여러 가지 사회적 모순, 곧 빈부의 격차와 노동문제 등과 같은 이른바 사회문제를 해결하기 위해 사회주의 운동이 본격적으로 나타났던 것이다. 그리고 여기에는 다수의 기독교인들이 관계하고 있었음은 주지의 사실이다. 이에 따라 본고에서는 근대 일본에서의 기독교와 사회주의의 교섭 문제의 단초적 연구로서 한 인물의 사상 속에서 기독교와 사회주의가 어떻게 이해되고 관계되고 있는지를 확인해 보고자 했다. 구체적으로 본고가 검토의 대상으로 삼았던 인물은 우치무라 간조(内村鑑三)인데, 우치무라는 사회주의자가 제기했던 문제들을 기독교 윤리의 문제로 파악하였고, 이를 통해 기독교 세계관 안에 사회주의를 적극적으로 포용, 사회주의를 창조적으로 수용하고자 했다.

Upon the completion of the Sino-Japanese War, the industrial structure has greatly changed in Japan, opening up an era of social movements. The social movements began to be shown up in earnest to resolve a number of social contradictions such as labor and poverty issues caused by the rapid growth of Capitalism. Also, it is a common knowledge that many Christians in Japan were involved in the movements. In this paper, therefore, as a beginning stage of a study about relationship between Christianity and Socialism in modern Japan, it is focus on how interaction between Christianity and Socialism was perceived by an individual, Uchimura Kanzo(内村鑑三). He perceived the problems raised by the Socialists as ethical issues of Christianity, and consequently, was able to accept Socialism in a new way by embracing it in the Christians outlook.
