시조의 어휘를 통해 본 주제의식

The writer consciousness and viewed through vocabulary accepted in ancient Korean sijo. -Focused on ‘Dont(~mara)’

This study found out works using ‘don't (~mara)’ in sijo, examined the authors, forms and words used, and elucidated the writer consciousness expressed in the works based on them to bring light on literary meanings. They are summarized as follows: First, works where ‘don't (~mara)’ is used in sijo are 194 pieces in total and for their authors, those whose names are known are 61 people with 115 pieces. For the period, they appeared in the first half of the Joseon Dynasty era and for the author class, they were from royal family and nobility (sadaebu). And for the form, they were of a single form. Most of them appeared in the first part of the 3 verses of a sijo with 103 times and overlapping forms appeared far less. In addition, we examined to whom ‘don't (~mara)’ was used and 24 items in total with 177 times in total. Concretely, man has the most frequency with 9 items and 92 times. Also, for summary of predicates combined with ‘don't(~mara)’, total vocabulary was 102 items and total frequency was 211 times. The most vocabulary was ‘smile’ with 22 times. Second, the writer consciousness of ‘don't (~mara)’ in sijo was involved with ‘proposing the boundary of life’, ‘stressing on people's edification’, ‘revealing filial piety and loyalty’ and ‘reinforcement of nature friendly life’ etc. Finally, we investigated the role and literary meaning of ‘don't (~mara)’ in sijo. It was found that first, it comprises a key phrase in sijo, that it plays an important role in developing authors' poetical imagination, ant that it performs a role of a literary device to reveal the authors' thematic consciousness and so son.(Mokwon University)
