This study is to analyze and collect the data on Haigakus of the middle region in Yamagata Prefecture. 97 pieces of Haigakus have existed in the middle region of Yamagata Prefecture. The oldest Haigaku was written in 1741, and the recent ones also exist. There are 33 pieces of Haigakus in Oemachi, and 25 pieces of them were written in Maekugaku. Haigakus from Zion Temple in Sagae City in 1828 were written by the established Haizins of various regions in Japan those days. Haigakus were made of the wood board commonly; however, Haigakus in Sagae City were made of paper. There are Haigakus which Gpho's disciples dedicated their mentors at the Japanese shrine of Yachimangu in Oemachi. Haigakus were dedicated as Horaku to please gods in the old days, and in the later days they could be dedicated for various purposes. Haigakus were dedicated to teachers such as Uedachyosyu of Kyoto, Mitumorimikio of Tokyo and Matusimazikko of Hamamatu in Meiji era. Especially the existence of 4 pieces of Haigakus dedicated to Matusimazikko as mentors have not drawn attention until now.
