Understanding and Practice of Prayers in Worship in Relation to Life Formation

기도는 예배의 역사에서 말씀과 성찬과 함께 예배자들의 삶과 영적 형성 과정에 매우 중요한 의미를 지닌다. 그럼에도 불구하고 학문과 목회의 영역에서 예배 기도가 삶의 형성에 미치는 의미와 역할에 대해서 깊이 논의한 경우는 많지 않다. 이 글은 예배 안에서 실천하는 기도가 삶의 변화와 관련해서 어떤 의미와 역할을 지니는지에 대해 세계관적인 관점에서 새롭게 다루고 목회적 관점에서 새로운 대안을 제시한다. 예배 안에서의 기도는 말씀과 성찬과 함께 삶의 변화를 이끌어내는데 중요한 역할을 한다. 예배에서의 기도는 하나님의 뜻을 언어로 구체화시켜 고백하고, 고난과 아픔을 포함한 삶의 모든 영역을 하나님과 연결시키며, 하나님과의 직접적이고 인격적인 관계를 통해서 영적 형성(spiritual formation)에 결정적인 역할을 한다. 이러한 세계관적인 의미를 지닌 예배 기도는 역사적으로 예배의 중요한 구성 요소로 간주되었고, 의도적으로 실천되어왔다. 특별히 목회 기도는 개혁 교회들에서 중요한 의미를 갖고 실천되어왔다. 동시에 성경의 기도집인 시편을 활용해서 고난과 아픔을 하나님과 연결시키는 탄식 기도 역시 중요한 예배 기도의 내용이자 방식이었다. 또한 성경적 예배의 한 부분이라 볼 수 있는 성경적 기도의 구성과 내용을 예배 기도에서 구체화시켜 실천했다. 이러한 역사적 이해를 바탕으로 이 글은 목회적이고 실천적인 측면에서 삶을 형성시키는 예배 기도의 과제를 간략히 제시했다. 중보기도, 탄식기도 그리고 목회자의 개념기도 실천은 예배와 삶의 변화를 연결시키기 위한 갱신의 중요한 대상이다.

Prayers in worship have significant meanings for the worshippers in shaping life and spiritual formation. However, academic studies of worship have not much argued the place and role of prayers in worship in terms of spiritual formation. This article attempts to deal with the meanings and functions of prayers in worship in terms of life formation in a worldview perspective and furthermore suggests a new practical guideline of leading the public prayer in worship in a pastoral perspective. Prayers in worship lead the worshippers to transform their lives along with the ministry of the Word and the Table. First and foremost, payers in worship enable them to clearly confess the will of God in languages. Second, conversation with God in worship helps them to relate all areas of human life including sufferings to God through laments. Third, communion with God through direct and personal relationship with God in languages plays an important part of spiritual formation. Public prayers have been accepted and practiced in worship as essential component of liturgy. In particular, pastoral prayer has been significantly exercised in Reformed tradition of worship. At the same time, prayers of lament in the Psalms have been main part of public prayers in worship. Besides them, the biblical form and content of prayers has been organized in the service of worship in the history of Christianity. Based on this historial understanding of prayers in worship, this article briefly suggests practical guideline of public prayer shaping life formation. In particular, prayer of intercession, prayer of lament, and conceived prayer are the main parts of renewal in the ministry of pastoral and public prayers in worship.
