Education from a Reformed Perspective: Its Identity and Tasks

개혁주의 기독교교육은 일반교육에 기독교적 내용을 단순히 추가하는 교육이 아니다. 기독교적 첨가물이 교육을 기독교적인 교육으로 만들어주는 보장책인 것처럼 생각하는 것은 순진한 생각이다. 세속주의의 영향은 ‘여우의 전략’을 사용하여 현대교육의 장에 스며들고 있다. 그러므로 우리는 교육의 이론은 물론, 교육의 전체 과정(process)을 통하여 개혁주의 세계관에 기초한 내적 변혁(inner transformation)에 관심을 가져야 한다. 그 이유는 교육을 포함한 인간의 모든 활동이 본질상 종교적이며 예배적인 행위이기 때문이다. 종교와 교육에 대한 이러한 포괄적인 이해를 배경으로 개혁주의 기독교교육은 기독교철학의 정교한 도구를 가지고 교육의 제 이론을 구체적으로 비판하고 평가할 수 있어야 한다. 이러한 작업은 개인적으로 수행될 수 있는 과제가 아니라 동일한 소망과 세계관, 그리고 동일한 이야기를 공유하고 있는 사람들의 공동체적 과제임을 인식해야 한다.

Christian education from the Reformed perspective is not the kind of education that we simply add some ‘spiritual’ elements to the secular education. Such an approach would be ‘icying on the cake’ approach to education and it would be very naive to think that one can make education Christian this way. The great influence of secularism in education pervades in every aspect of education through so-called ‘fox strategy’ as Os Guinness describes. This is the reason why we as Christian scholar should be concerned about the inner-transformation of education with a Biblical Reformational perspective. All human activities including educational activities are religious in nature and a form of worship. Based on this comprehensive understanding of religion and education, those who are engaged in education from a reformed perspective should be able to evaluate the theories and practices of education with the tool of Christian philosophy. The task of the Reformed education development is not an individual task but a communal task of those who have the same Biblical world view, story and hope.
