A Study on Color Image for Each Type of Restaurants

The color in restaurant should correspond with its image and atmosphere or the direction of management. The study was intended to select an image for the respective restaurant. 66 common visual images were selected from the book 「World Restaurants and Bars 1. 2. 3. 4」. To classify color images, 86 adjectives were selected with regard to 66 visual images for restaurants via a survey of 33 color experts. Through a factor analysis, 6 standard adjectives were extracted; ‘courtesy’, ‘mild’, ‘dynamic’, ‘high-tech’, ‘natural’, and ‘simple’. ‘courtesy’ and ‘simple’ were the latest trends which the world metropolitan restaurants were pursuing after. By ANOVA, a luxury restaurant matched well with ‘courtesy’ and ‘simple’ a specialty restaurant with ‘courtesy’, ‘dynamic’ and ‘simple’ and a family restaurant with ‘dynamic’, ‘high-tech’, and ‘simple’.
