Cumulative Increase of Income Inequality, Political Inequality and Inequality of Opportunity: New Roles of Welfare System and Trade Union

글로벌 금융위기를 경험하면서 소득불평등, 정치적 불평등 그리고 기회의 불평등이 동시에 증가하고 있으며 이들 불평등이 상호작용을 통하여 누적적으로 증가하고 있음을 깨닫게 되었다. 그런데 이러한 불평등의 증가는 경제위기만이 아니라 민주주의의 위기도 초래하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 다양한 불평 등이 왜 동시에 진행되는지를 분석하고자 한다. 우선, 경제적 불평등, 정치적 불평등 그리고 기회불평등의 현황을 살펴보았다. 둘째, 다양한 불평등이 동시에 증가하는 누적적인 관계가 어떻게 형성되는지를 분석하였다. 마지막으로 이러한 분석을 기초로 소득불평등, 정치적 불평등 그리고 기회의 불평등이 왜 국가 간에 차이가 나는 지를 복지제도와 노동조합을 중심으로 살펴보았다.

While experiencing the global financial crisis that started in 2007-2008, we came to recognize that income inequality, political inequality and inequality of opportunity are all rising simultaneously and that these increases are cumulative due to interaction effects between the inequalities. This is not only resulting in an economic crisis, but is also leading to a crisis of democracy. This study analyzes why such multiple inequalities are developing concurrently. First, we verify whether the inequalities are in fact rising together. Second, we analyze the cumulative relationship between these three simultaneously increasing inequalities. Finally, based on this analysis and focusing on welfare systems and trade unions, we examine international differences in income inequality, political inequality and inequality of opportunity.
