This study examines institutional cooperation between the WTO and other international organizations across a range of areas including trade, finance, aid, and social and environmental regulation. It shows that WTO has made a limited success at increasing macroeconomic consistency in the global economy, but has a possibility of greater success in the area of Enhanced Integrated Framework and Aid for Trade. In the area of trade liberalization, coherence is much improved if the WTO acts as a positive rule-maker and coordinates the rules among the relevant international institutions. However, in the area of social and environmental regulation, coherence is achieved if the WTO leaves international regulatory space for other international institutions to make positive rules.
