TLB(transformational leadership behavior) has been the most popular subject in the areas of both leadership research and practical leadership development for more than 30 years. Although there are many publications that support the significant consequences of TLB, research aimed at exploring and testing the antecedents of TLB is limited. In this study, two potential relevant antecedents performing TLB were investigated, namely, leaders awareness of organizational vision and leaders awareness of organizational need for change. Guided by Lewin(1947) and Kotter(1995) s theory of organizational change stage, a research model was developed and formulated hypotheses were empirically tested on data gathered from 90 team managers and 348 subordinates. Findings supported the proposed hypotheses. Leaders awareness of organizational vision and organizational need for change have significant relationships with leaders TLB, and, in turn, leaders TLB showed significant effects on subordinates commitment to the team and change-oriented organizational citizenship behavior. Implications for future leadership research and practice are discussed.
