Multicultural Ethical Identity and Equality Education

Korea was changed to the multicultural society. In the countryㆍsocial side, the duplicity of the affirmation and negation will be found. However, the philosophical task for the civil education problem contributing to the social fairness and global development is insufficient. The purpose of this paper is to expand the range of multicultural education research into the concept of ethical identity and equality education. I analyze Ricoeurs's theory of ethics which provides the identity concept for the multicultural society. It aims at a good life with and for others in just institutions. Thus the aim of citizenship education is the making of democratic citizen who realizes one's good life actively and responsibly. Next, I discuss Dworkin's equality of resources which is the principle of the equal importance and special responsibility. And I compare Dworkin's theory of distributive justice with others, especially that of John Rawls. In the last part of this paper I research the possibility of the national identity education in the multiculturalism. Finally, the range of the researches on multicultural equality education should be extended to the more practical problems in local community education such as those of various groups suffering discrimination.
