In the Catholic tradition, St. Thomas Aquinas is called the Angelic Doctor. He has had influence on the philosophical and theological teaching in Christianity. And he also wrote treatises concerning education. Over the course of the four articles of the De magisto he inquires into the reciprocal activities of teaching and learning This paper is to analyse and to consider the answer of Thomas to the paradox of teaching in his works, De Veritate (Question 11 De Magistro) and Summa Theologiae(Question 117), in which his educational ideas is chiefly summed up. In order to achieve this end, I have set three goals for this study. My first task is to consider his time, life and works. My second task is to examine his metaphysical doctrine, making reference to its Aristotelian source before turning to a statement of his views on education. My third goal is to present Thomas Aquinas' epistemology which rests on its metaphysics and the possibility of teaching-learning. Since reality is a rationally structured system and the human mind is by nature rational, we are capable of knowing. But the teacher only brings exterior help, as the physician who heals. Just as the inward nature is the principal cause of the healing, so the interior light of the intellect is the principal cause of knowledge. But both of these are from God.
