초등영어교육에서 창의성 교육의 실천 방안 연구

Fostering creativity in the elementary school English classroom

Developing every individual's creative potential is one of the crucial goals of 2009 revised version of National Curriculum. The present study aims to investigate the concept of creativity in English education and suggest how to foster creativity in elementary English lessons. To this end, it first reviewed the different definitions of creativity and looked into the components of creativity in relation to English education. It then proposed a model which showed how creativity education could be implemented in the English classroom. Finally, the three ways of integrating creativity education with English education were provided with some effective English teaching methods and strategies: (1) Using creative thinking skills; (2) Creativity education based on curricular contents; (3) Using instructional models useful for creativity development. This study emphasizes that creativity education in the elementary English classroom is not impossible and students' creativity is more likely to be developed in contexts in which teachers teach creatively with a wide range of teaching strategies.
