This thesis is purposed for seeking for the implication of a woman's being disguised in a man's clothes of a heroine novel. A woman's self-consciousness and Confucian ideology, which were focused on in a previous thesis, will be discussed as an issue. In order to do this, five works were chosen, which showed the confrontation between woman and man or a woman's self-consciousness remarkably. These are following: <Jung-su-jung-jeon)(정수 정전), <Hong-gyc-wol-jeon>(홍계월전), <Ok-ju-ho-yeon)(옥주호연), <Lee-hak-sa-jeon>(이학사전), <Bang-han-rim-jeon)(방한림전) A woman's disguise in a man's clothes implies the change 'Yin'(陰) into 'yang'(陽). Traditionally, people considered such a change negatively, but they accepted it as positive only when it was intended to expose the ideology of those days. A heroine novel shows that aspect, too. People in a novel objected against it when a heroine tried to disguise herself in a man's clothes. But they accepted it as positive when she got even with the enemies for her family or she succeeded in the world and won fame. A heroine suffers from conflicts within herself besides overcoming conflicts with the world. It shows that she is conscious chat she should live as a woman. She disguise herself in a man's clothes with being conscious of this face. In the case of Ryeong-hye-beeng(영 혜빙) of <Bang-han-rim-jeon>(방한림전), she was conscious of it strongly. Bur it was different from other heroines in that she chose the marriage with a person of the same sex. It can be very innovative in terms of feminine view. Other heroines' behaviors in a man's clothes except Ryeong-hye-beeng(영혜빙) is thoroughly man-oriented. They try to succeed in the world as a man, especially among succeeded men. It is woman's behavior that thsis thesis focuses on. Such an aspect assures the conclusion that a heroine novel was just a popular novel which was intended to give readers an interest by adding a factor of a woman's being disguised in a man's clothes. Finally, I chink it is appropriate to understand the face that a woman's disguise in a man's clothes embodes Confucian ideology rather than a woman's self-consciousness and it is a medium to interest readers as it was pointed out by a previous research workers.
