<女性傳記>의 서술의도 연구

A Study on the writing intention of <Women's Biographies> -16th and 17th centuries-

This thesis intends to consider the writing intention of the <Women's Biographies> in 16th and 17th centuries. The <Women's Biographies> is a general term for the various kinds of writings depicting a woman's life. The <Women's Biographies> has the external intention and the internal intention The former is the officially expressed intention of the writers. The writers tried to give a lesson to the future generation by leaving the records of performances of great women, although it is not desirable for women to show themselves in public. Therfore, the writers intended to present the desirable image of the woman in hose writings. On the contrary, the internal intention was revealed from the contents implicitly not even showed directly by a writer. 1he hidden intention of a writer lay in showing certain kinds of life forms to present an ideal image of a woman. Then, I will suggest several approaches. The first one is about a point of view to the household economy. Most recordings were emphasizing the frugality and honest poverty more often than before, trough some of them were showing the interest in wealth. It was due to the social atmosphere stressing more on mental than on the material in that period. The second is the importantce on a ceremony for the ancestors. The ceremony for the ancestors had been considered important, and those recordings were showing that women practiced their Sung Confucianistic moral view thouroughly by describing in detail how women prepared for the ceremony. Third, it included political incidents. Those recordings are describing how women were managing big events in domestic and the outside the country in those days. In this period, 'Sarim' schools took the political power. 'Sarim' politicains stressed Sung Confucianistic morla view in thought, and as a result, the mental aspects were regarded important. This was connected to the education, and it also concerned with the reign. So that narrators tried co highlight strongly how contemporary women practice concredey their views on value and moral at home. The reason why they brought the image of women who behaved on the base of the moral view emphasized socially is that the recordings not only play an important role in promoting spiritual and political position of the family, but also they rather prove the high status of a woman in a her family.
