문학과 정신분석학의 '기괴한Unheimlic' 관계에 관하여

A Case of the Uncanny: Sisters Called Literature and Psychoanalysis

문학과 정신분석학의 기괴한 관계에 관하여 근대적인 도구적 이성과 일직선적 시간으로는 이해할 수 없는 정서적 충격을 분석하려고 프로이트가 고안해낸 개념이 기괴함unheimliche(uncanny)이다. 이 기괴함은 완결될 수 없는 개념이다. 완결될 수 없는 개념을 완결시키려는 유혹에 사로잡힌 이론가가 프로이트이다. 페미니스트들은 이 기괴함을 재현불가능한 것이자 완결될 수 없는 것으로 열어둠으로써 여성적인 것과 연결시키려고 노력해왔다. 루스 이리가라이, 엘렌느 씩수, 줄리아 크리스테바 등과 같은 정신분석학적 페니스트들의 노력이 이에 해당한다. 본고는 기괴함이라는 개념으로 문학과 정신분석학의 관계를 조명해보고자 했다. 신경숙, 은희경, 최윤의 단편 「벌판 위의 빈집」, 「아내의 상자」, 「속삭임, 속삭임」을 기괴함으로 분석함으로써, 정신분석학적인 개념이 문학 분석에 어떻게 적용될 수 있는지를 살펴보고자 한다.

Freud came up with the idea of Umheimliche or the uncanny to analyze a kind of psychological shock that can not be grasped by applying the modern linear time and instrumental reason. The uncanny, by definition, defies any effort to complete it. With the concept of the uncanny, however, Freud tried to complete something that can never be completed. Pointing out the futility in Freud's work, some of the psychoanalytical feminists like Luce Irigaray and Helene Cixous, Julia. Kristeva have tried to prove the compatibility of the uncanny to the feminine, which at the same time serves as a way to save the uncanny by leaving it open as the irrepresentable and the incompletable. This thesis reconsiders the relationship between literature and psychoanalysis through the concept of the uncanny. And this reconsideration is conducted along the way to probe the practicability of psychoanalytical concepts in literary analysis. The texts approached in the thesis through the concept of the uncanny are [An Empty Home on a Prairie] by Kyung-Sook Shin, [Wife's Box] by Hee-Kyung Eun, and [Whisper, Whisper] by Yoon Choi.
