A study on mental conditions of sexual assault victims and policy agenda

1. 연구 목적 ○ 성폭력 피해자의 정신건강 현황에 대한 근거중심의 통계를 제시하고자 함. 최근 성폭력 피해자들의 건강상태현황을 분석하고 기존 자료를 활용하여 일반인의 정신건강 수준과 성폭력 피해여성의 스트레스, 우울감, 자살생각 및 자살시도 등의 정신건강 수준을 비교 분석하고자 함 ○ 성폭력 피해자 심층면접과 전문가 면접을 통하여 정신건강과 관련한 정책적 방안을 제시하고자 함 2. 연구 내용 ○ 성폭력 전, 당시, 후의 3가지 시기별 신체적 건강수준 및 정신적 건강수준, 스트레스, 우울감, 자살생각 및 자살 시도, 음주 및 흡연량을 인구사회학적 특성별로 분석함 ○ 일반인과 비교하여 성폭력 피해여성의 스트레스, 우울감, 자살생각 및 자살 수준을 비교함. 또한 성폭력 피해 시기 및 횟수와 자살생각과의 상관성을 분석함 ○ 성폭력 피해자 대상 심층면접을 통한 임상의학적 정신건강 수준을 분석함 ○ 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 성폭력시설 기관 담당자 및 전문가대상 자문회의를 통한 정책방안을 제시함

A purpose of the study is to examine mental conditions of sexual assault victims and to suggest policies based on the results of the quantitative and qualitative analysis. Foreign studies have examined subjective health conditions of sexual assault victims. Yet, there is a lack of studies related to subjective health conditions of sexual assault victims, focused on mental conditions. Therefore, the study examines change of mental conditions such as stress, depression, and suicidal thought and attempt after being sexual assault victims. Also, this study compares mental conditions of sexual assault victims with those of general population. The study conducts a survey and interview with sexual assault victims to suggest policies for them. For speaking of the results, this study finds that mental conditions of sexual assault victims are worse than physical conditions of them after time of sexual assaults occurrence has been passed. Stress and depression has been worse, and suicidal thoughts and attempts have been increased after the occurrence. When compared with mental conditions of general population, those of sexual assault victims are far worse in terms of a degree of stress and depression. With the results, this study suggests policies including changing people's mind on the crime of sexual assault through campaign by media, changing a report system on the crime and of expansion of sex education program, adding educational contents into the sex education program based on age, running a community screening system for prevention of the crime, educating teachers on symptoms of depression of students, establishing a network of a school with NGOs for assisting the victims, rearing nurses and placing them in One-Stop assisting centers for prevention of the crime repetition, establishing a continual assisting system for recovering mental conditions of sexual assault victims, establishing a network of the NGOs with centers for prevention of suicide, improving welfare for workers working at consulting and helping the victims, and educating human rights and gender equality for a general population.
