1. 연구의 필요성 및 목적 □ 한국 남성의 성역할로 인한 심리적 역기능을 고려할 때 남성의 성역할에 대한 사회적 성찰과 남성들의 과도한 성역할 부담을 줄여가는 방안의 모색이 필요하다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 한국적 특성을 반영한 '한국형 남성 성역할 갈등 검사도구'를 개발한다. 이는 한국 사회의 성역할 규범의 특성과 이것이 한국 남성에게 미치는 심리적 역기능을 잘 파악할 수 있게 해 줄 것이다. 또한 남성 성역할이 여성과의 관계에서 규정되는 만큼 남성의 성역할 수행이 여성에게 어떤 영향을 미치고 나아가 가족에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 이해하게 하여 남성과 여성이 평등하고 균형적으로, 행복하게 살 수 있는 길을 모색하는데 도움을 줄 것이다. 2. 연구 내용 □ 1) 남성 성역할과 성역할 갈등 개념 파악 2) 한국형 남성 성역할 검사 문항개발과 요인 추출 및 요인간의 구조 분석 3) 한국 남성의 성역할 갈등 조사 4) 남성 성역할 갈등과 심리 안녕과의 관계 규명 5) 검사의 활용방안 및 이론적, 정책적 시사점 도출로 구성된다. 3. 연구 방법 □ 연구방법은 1) 검사의 요인과 세부항목개발을 위한 문헌연구 2) 기존 척도조사, 연구진에 의한 문항개발, 일반인 대상 조사를 통한 문항개발, 내용 타당도 검토를 통한 원문항 구성 3) 남녀대상의 조사를 통해 남성 성역할 갈등 항목으로 유의미한 문항을 선정하기 위한 1차 예비조사 4) 본조사에 사용할 문항선정을 위해 탐색적 요인분석 등 문항선정을 위한 2차 예비조사 5) 다른 검사와의 변별, 수렴 타당도 검증, 구인 타당도, 구조방정식 모형적 함도분석을 통한 검사도구 확정 및 다른 준거변인과의 관계 분석을 위한 본조사 6) 본조사 신뢰도 확보를 위한 검사-재검사 7) 문항선정과 분석방법과 관련한 자문회의 실시의 과정으로 진행된다.

Male gender role is known to cause psychological dysfunctions such as depression, stresses, and low self-esteem. Therefore, it is required to assess the degree of Korean men's gender role conflict and its correlation with the psychological dysfunctions. For this purpose, we developed the Korean Male Gender Role Conflict Scale and using this scale, analyzed the relationship between male gender role conflict and depression, stresses and self-esteem. The Korean male gender role conflict scale is constituted with 37 items and has six factors such as male superiority(28.2%), work and family relation(9.0%), success, power, competition(7.7%), restrictive emotionality(6.4%), family head responsibility (4.8%), restrictive affectionate behavior between men(3.9%). All six factors explain 60.2% of the total variance. As the result of the correlation analyses show, Korean male gender role conflict is significantly correlated to all the psychological variables mentioned above. Stress is most strongly correlated at the level of .296(p ＜ .01) and depression is correlated at .276(p ＜ .01). Self-esteem is negatively correlated at the level of -.166. Among stresses, financial stress is most strongly correlated at the level of .226(p ＜ .01) and health stress is least strongly correlated at .128(p ＜ .01). We propose to utilize the Korean male gender role conflict scale for the purpose of self-assessment of men's gender role conflict and in the occasions of counseling for men's mental health improvement, workshop and counseling for couple and family relation improvement.
