The symbol of 'river' in the Chinese poetry of Korea

As generally accepted, Literature is the reflection of human experiences. Usually Human beings are conditioned and organized in titre and space. Therefore titre and space are the crucial factors in the production of literature and have an important meaning in literary epistemology. In case of Chinese poetry of korea, it is very important that hammy with nature such as river and mountain, etc. Specially, the river as a motif and theme figured repeatedly. This thesis investigate the meaning of rivers and lakes manifested in the Chinese poetry of Korea. As a result of sketching out the general features of the symbols, river dominant symbolized 'severance'. This meaning of the symbol of river is accepted as an archetype in Chinese poetry of Korea. Otherwise in those days, the river is the main trope and the criteria that the elite-intellectual group must decision to advance to the public servant or retreat in the private life. Finally, the many Korean poets celebrate or ridicule a life in seclusion in rivers and lakes at Korean classical poetry.
