Recently, the Korean culture became the most popular one in the world. And also the Korean stars became the popular stars in overseas too. At this time, many Korean companies try to sell the their own products with the photos or names of the Korean movie or drama stars. Because they know that the names or photos of the popular stars have the power of gathering the consumers and make consumers buy their products easily than others. But, sometimes their photos or names were used illegally. For this reason, the Korean stars and companies want to protect from the illegal using and keep their value of names and photos. But, there is no statute for protecting them. There is only common law which is called the right of publicity for protecting from illegal using of the names and photos of the Korean stars. Therefore, in the point of comparative study on laws, we need to study and understand other country's law for the right of publicity. As a first step, this thesis is for the right of publicity in Japan.
