Over the past few years, Information Technology(IT) has profoundly influenced current thoughts and practices of English Language Teaching(ELT). The present paper attempts to explain the meaning of IT in the Chinese context. It briefly reviews the history and features of three stages of IT in ELT in China. The paper then describes major trends, practices and benefits of employing IT in China's English education. It also discusses the major problems and challenges for teachers of English in using IT in ELT.
