여장군소설 주인공의 역할 모델 연구

A study on the role model of heroines in the female-general novel

지금까지 여장군소설 형성의 외래적 동인으로 <설인귀전>의 영향이 언급되었다. 하지만 나는 중국에는 실존했던 여장들이 있었고 소설에도 여러 명의 여장이 등장하기에, 그것만으로는 충분치 않다고 생각했다. 본 연구의 출발점은 이들의 존재가 실제로 여장군소설의 형성에 영향을 미쳤는지 확인하자는 것이었다. 우선 역사서에 기록된 여장군들의 형상을 검토했다. 조선조 문인들의 기록에서 중국의 여장들을 찾고, 그들이 어떤 행적을 보였으며 그것이 우리나라 소설에 어떻게 영향을 주었을지 고찰했다. 그 결과 중국의 평양공주, 세부인, 진양옥의 행적은 특히 여장군소설 발생의 토대가 되었다고 보았다. 황숭하가 男裝하고 살아간 것도 여장군소설 주인공의 형상화에 중요한 모티프로 작용했다. 다음에는 중국 소설에 등장하는 여장들의 활약상을 검토하여, 그들이 여장군소설 주인공의 역할 모델이 되었음을 확인했다. 그 가운데 <설정산정서>에 등장하는 번리화는 남편을 거느리는 원수로 활약한다는 점에서 중요한 모델이다. 목계영을 비롯하여 <양가장연의>에 등장하는 여장들이 집단적으로 보여준 활약상도 여장군소설의 주인공을 형상화하는 데 많은 기여를 했다. <설인귀전> 연작과 <양가장연의>는 여장군소설의 구조나 전반적인 인물구성은 물론 세부적인 측면에도 적잖은 영향을 미쳤다. 이처럼 중국의 문헌들이 미친 영향이 크다는 사실은 여장군소설의 작가를 추정하는 과정에서도 중요하게 고려해야 할 사안이다.

In many studies about Korean classic novels of female general, Seol-in-gui-jeon(<설인귀전>) had considered as a foreign agent for formation of those novels. I thought the novel was not the only agent because several female generals really existed in China and many Chinese classic novels involved female generals as characters. This study was focused on confirming whether those Chinese female generals had affected in formation of Korean female-general novel. Firstly, I examined female generals represented in Chinese history. I searched Chinese female generals written in records of literary artists of Korea(Chosun). And then I investigated how they acted and what effect they had on Korean female-general novel. As a result of this investigation, the origin of Korean female-general novel was based on the heroic deeds of Princess Pyeong-yang(평양공주), Madam Se(세부인), Jin-yang-ok(진양옥) of China. A motif of woman in man's disguise(especially, Hwang-sung-ha (황숭하)) also significantly influenced on representing heroine in Korean female-general novel. Secondly, I examined female generals' activities in Chinese novels and confirmed that they had become a role-model of the heroine in Korean female-general novel. For example, Beon-ri-hwa(번리화) in Seol-jeong- san-jeong-seo(<설정산정서>) was an important role-model who acted as a general, placing her husband under her orders. Including Mok-gye-yeong(목계영), female generals' collective activities in Yang-ga-jang-yeon-eui (<양가장연의>) greatly affected in representing main characters in Korean female-general novel. A series of Seol-in-gui-jeon and Yang-ga-jang-yeon-eui actually had decisive effect not only on the structure and overall characterization but also on details. The fact that Chinese records had a great effect on Korean female-general novel must be importantly considered in terms of assuming the author.
