월전 장우성의 그림과 동일 화제의 반복적 사용을 통한 미적 기능의 실험

Chang Woo-soung's Paintings and the Experiment on Aesthetic Function by Repeatedly Using the Same Chinese Poems and Chinese Prose Writings

이 글은 월전이 화제의 미적 기능을 다각적으로 실험하기 위해 동일 화제들을 그림에 따라 어떻게 달리 사용하였는가를 밝혀보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 먼저 18종의 동일 화제가 각각 적혀진 2폭 또는 3폭의 그림들의 비교를 통해 월전이 두 번째 그림 또는 세 번째 그림에 동일 화제를 적어 넣을 때 첫 번째 그림에서와는 다르게 사용하였던 방식들을 추출하여 그것들을 유형화하였다. 첫 번째 유형은 동일 화제의 배열 형태만 달리하는 방식이다. 두 번째 유형은 동일 화제의 배열 형태뿐만 아니라 배열 위치도 달리하는 방식이다. 첫 번째 방식을 사용한 경우에는 일군의 문자 형상으로서 화제가 하는 기능이 그림에 따라 달라지지 않는다. 이에 비해 두 번째 방식을 사용한 경우에는 일군의 문자 형상으로서 화제가 하는 기능이 그림에 따라 달라지기도 하고 또 달라지지 않기도 한다. 그러므로 두 번째 유형은 화제의 기능이 달라지느냐의 여부에 따라 다시 세부 유형으로 구분할 수 있다. 이 글에서는 각 유형에 따라 동일 화제가 사용된 그림들을 비교 분석하여 동일 화제를 이루는 문자들의 배열 형태와 배열 위치 그리고 기능이 그림에 따라 어떻게 달라지는지를 구체적으로 살펴보았다.

In this paper it is studied how Chang Woo-soung has differently used the same Chinese poems and prose writings on his paintings, to make a series of experiments on their aesthetic function, such as function of letter-characters' shapes. The methods used by Chang Woo-soung are as follows: (1) The method of varying the form in which shapes of letter-characters are arranged. (2) The method of varying both the form and the position in which shapes of letter-characters are arranged. The latter method is again divided into two types according to whether the aesthetic function of letter-characters' shapes is the same or different.
