In Japanese Shishosetsu (I-novel) where the novelist becomes a main character, novelist-novels appear from the beginning. The Reconciliation by Siga Naoya attempted a novelist-novel. The Reconciliation, based on actually-existed discord between Siga Naoya and his father, describes the process of the reconciliation between main character Junkichi and father. This can be interpreted as the uthor s effort to find the self in the face of modern system when people are unable to go against the flow of time. While depicting such process of the reconciliation, this novel shows the author s appearance from time to time and dismantles its completed story. The novelist-novel of The Reconciliation coincides with metafiction of the post-modern age - continually reminding us of the fact that a novel is a fiction. Skill of metafiction in the post-modern age was already attempted in The Reconciliation 100 years ago. The form of a novelist-novel frequently used by authors of Japanese I-novel is emerging as a new option to writers living in this post- modern age.
