On Binding Theories in Expletive Constructions

This paper will primarily focus on exploring the binding relation in there-expletive constructions by investigating some leading ideas about the issue. However, it will be verified that these ideas are not fully tenable as a satisfactory explanation for the binding phenomena in expletive constructions. The goal of this paper is to propose an alternative idea to capture the binding effects in the Minimalist Approach, by revising and developing Chomsky's (1995) core ideas of the LF feature movement, and Lasnik's (1996a) analysis on binding, based on Koizumi's (1993, 1995) Split VP hypothesis.
