This study used GEB extract to minimize hair damage during chemical hair treatment. For this, changes in the severity of hair damage through an addition of GEB extract (20%) during hair coloring after a perm or during a perm after hair dyeing were examined. After dyeing hair after a perm (PDO), dyeing after a GEB extract-added perm (PDT), GEB extract-added dyeing after a GEB extract-added perm (PDTH), a perm after GEB extract-added dyeing (DPO) and GEB extract-added perm after GEB extract-added dyeing (DPT), the study found the following: In the formation of a perm wave, DPT was the highest with 38.63%. In terms of tensile strength, PDTH was the highest with 157.51 gf/㎟. According to an analysis of cuticles, clear and even scale formation was observed in PDTH. In terms of microscopic structure, stable scales were found in PDTH (284.22 ± 29.51 ㎚). In terms of formation of amino acid, PDTH reached up to 78.75%. In terms of cysteine content as well, PDTH was the highest with 7.628. In terms of color, L*, a* and b* values all declined in PDTH. It was verified that if GEB extract-added dyeing is performed after a perm during a chemical hair treatment, hair damage can be reduced. Therefore, it appears that GEB extract would be useful in the cosmetology industry.
