고전소설에 수용된 숙향의 형상과 문학적 의미

The literary meaning and form of Sukhyang accepted in the classical novels

이 논문은 고전소설에 수용된 숙향의 형상과 거기에 담긴 문학적 의미를 고찰한 것이다. 조선후기에 <숙향전>이 폭넓게 향유되면서 숙향은 다수의 고전소설 작품에 다양한 형상으로 개입되고 있다. 그 주요한 유형은 선녀ㆍ절색ㆍ비애ㆍ비련의 형상인데, 수용양상이 보여주는 두드러진 특징은 광범위성과 가변성이다. 고전소설에 수용된 숙향은 당대 향유층이 숙향을 초월적 존재와 비극적 존재로 인식하였고, 이러한 이원적 인식을 토대로 숙향 형상을 외적 묘사나 정서표현에 주로 활용하였음을 보여준다. 또한 고전소설의 숙향 수용을 통해 숙향의 고난에 대한 향유층의 의식을 살펴볼 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 <숙향전> 내용이 고사로 정착ㆍ활용되었음을 알 수 있다.

This study examined the form and the meaning of Sukhyang accepted in the classical novels. The latter of Choseon, <Sukhayngcheon> was enjoyed and Sukhyang has intervened as various form in lots of classical novels. The important types are angel, the beauty, sorrow, tragic forms. The aspect of acceptance shows some major features that are a wide scope and variability. We can see that readers understood Sukhyang as a transcendental and tragic existence at that time through classical novels. With these recognitions, form of Sukhyang was used in external description and expression of emotion generally. Also through acceptance of Sukhyang in classical novels, we can know the consciousness of readers about the hardship of Sukhyang and can understand that <Sukhyangcheon> was utilized as a ancient story
