Violent Outcomes from Conflict Situations in the Family -An Interactional Explanation of Violence-

이 논문은 갈등 상황에서의 폭력 사용에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석하고 있다. 일상생활에서 갈등은 드물지 않게 일어나는데 모든 갈등이 폭력으로 귀결되는 것은 아니다. 갈등이 폭력으로 악화되는 원인을 파악하기 위해서는 행위자의 기질적 특성에 대한 검토와 더불어 갈등의 내용과 갈등의 전개 상황에 대한 검토가 필요하다. 이 논문은 다양한 유형의 대인 관계 가운데 상호작용 밀도가 높고 갈등의 발생 가능성이 높은 가족내에서 일어난 갈등 상황에서의 폭력 사용을 분석하고 있다. 분석에 사용한 자료는 한국형사정책연구원에서 서울시와 6대 도시의 20세 이상 성인을 표본 조사한 자료이다. 원 자료에서 가족관계에서 갈등이 발생한 사례를 선별하여 분석하였다. 폭력 사용에 영향을 주는 요인을 확인하기 위하여 로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 폭력의 원인을 설명하는 이론을 범죄성향론과 범죄상황론, 상호작용론적 설명으로 나누어 검토하고 분석 모형을 설정하였다. 회귀모형에 포함된 변수는 범죄성향을 나타내는 요인, 갈등의 내용 및 특성 요인, 갈등 상황에서 당사자의 행위 등이다. 로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시한 결과 갈등 상황에서 폭력 사용 여부에 영향을 미치는 요인은 범죄 기회요인, 응답자의 철회ㆍ회피 행동, 상대방의 폭력 사용 등으로 나타났다. 이러한 분석 결과에 근거하여 갈등 상황에서의 폭력 사용을 이해하기 위해서는 폭력적 대면상황에서 마주한 당사자 사이에 진행되는 상호작용이 중요하게 고려되어야 한다는 점을 논의하였다.

It studies the causes of violence in conflict situations. Conflict situations are common in everyday life, but most of them do not result in violence. Violent outcomes can be explained by the characteristics of conflict, the interaction process in conflict situations and individual risk factors of crime. It examines conflict and violence in the family where interaction processes are more dense and conflicts are more frequent than those in any other personal relationships. It analyses subsample cases reporting conflict in the family, which are selected from the representative sample of the citizens aged 20 and above in the Seoul and 6 biggest cities. It evaluates logistic regression models to explain the violent outcomes from conflict situations. As it reviews the criminological theories explaining violence from dispositional perspectives and situational perspectives, the regression model includes variables representing individual dispositions of crime, the characteristics of conflict and the actors' reactions in violent situations. The result of logistic regression models shows that the variables representing criminal opportunity, withdrawal/avoidance and violent reactions have significant effects on the violent outcomes. The result implies that situational explanations are more valid than dispositional explanations. It proposes that violence can be better understood in the context of interaction process.
