상황적 기회요인에 따른 침입절도범의 범행선택 차이에 관한 연구

A Study on the Differences in Target Selection of Burglars depending on Situational Opportunity Factors

침입절도는 가장 일반적인 범죄이고, 물질적 피해뿐만 아니라 신체적인 접촉이 없는 재산범죄임에도 불구하고 그 정신적인 피해와 그 피해로 인한 정신적인 휴유증이 매우 큰 범죄 유형이다. 이 연구에서는 범행의 상황적 기회요인에 따라 침입절도범의 범행대상 선택에 어떠한 차이가 있는지를 규명하였고 이에 따른 논의를 전개하였다. 범죄관련 특성에 따른 상황적 기회요인의 차이에서는 20대와 40대 이상에서 '수익성'을 30대는 '적발가능성'을 가장 중요하게 고려하고 있었다. 동종범죄경력의 경우 초범보다는 재범이상의 응답자가 상황적 기회요인을 보다 중요하게 고려하였고, 범죄계획을 세웠던 범죄자의 경우 모든 상황적 기회요인에 대하여 중요하게 고려하는 것으로 나타나 침입절도시 범행대상에 대한 위험과 잠재적 가치가 매우 중요한 것으로 나타났다. 상황적 기회요인 중 '수익성'과 '적발가능성'을 중요하게 고려하는 침입절도 범죄자들은 범행지역으로 도시지역을 선호하고 범행장소로는 개인주거지역을 선호하는 비율이 매우 높은 것으로 나타났다.

A burglary is the most common crime and it may cause not only property damages but also very serious mental damages and aftereffects although it does not involve a physical contact. This study aims to investigate and understand the difference in target selection of burglars, with a focus on situational opportunity factors. As for the differences in situational opportunity factors depending on crime-related characteristics, it is found that the criminals in their 20s and those in their 40s or older gave top priority to 'safety' while those in their 30s gave top priority to 'possibility to be caught.' The first offenders of the crime considered the situational opportunity factors less seriously than the second or more frequent offenders did. And their plans for the crime were made taking seriously into consideration all the situational opportunity factors. It means that the risk and potential value of burglaries' targets (i.e., victims) were critically important. In connection with the situational opportunity factors, as burglars gave more consideration to the 'profitability' and 'possibility to be caught,' they very much preferred a private house of urban residential quarters as their criminal site.
