Research Model of Green Management and its Application to POSCO

Green management is an important issue in the current businesses. To tackle issues on with the climate change which is a global challenge, as a global disaster, all firms in the world are pressed to reduce the emission amount of green house gasses from their production and distribution processes. This paper reviewed the past studies about green management, developed a research model and applied it in to the case of POSCO, a recognized excellent Korean manufacturing company noted for its strides in in performing sustainability. From the past theories in green management, motives, contents and outcomes of green management were determined. The motives are institutional pressure, competitiveness improvement and ethical perspective of the management. The contents of green management are explained in two ways: carbon emission reduction and investment in green industries. The outcomes are increased reputation and performance. Then, a case analysis of POSCO, based on their carbon report in 2012 was conducted., and findings showed how these three dimensions are reflected in POSCO s low-carbon management. Some theoretical and practical implications are also provided.
