The Relationships of Creativity, Problem Solving Ability and Motivation in College Students

본 연구는 대학생의 창의성, 즉 창의적 능력과 창의적 성향에 영향을 미치는 인지적 측면에서의 문제해결력과 정의적 측면에서의 동기간의 상호관계를 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위하여 대학생용 학습역량검사의 창의성, 문제해결력, 동기를 측정하는 문항들을 사용하여 대학생 1,434명의 학습역량을 측정하여 그 자료를 분석하였다. 분석결과, 문제해결력과 동기는 대학생의 창의적 능력과 성향을 유의미하게 설명해주고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 창의적 능력은 인지적 측면인 문제해결력과 상관이 높았으며, 창의적 성향은 정의적 측면인 동기와 더 상관이 높게 나타났다, 따라서 본 연구에서는 대학생의 창의성 신장과 학습역량 계발의 필요성에 비추어 대학생의 창의성에 대한 문제해결력 및 동기의 설명력과 세 변인간의 상관관계를 밝힘으로써 앞으로 대학생의 창의성 신장 및 학습역량 계발을 위한 수업방법 개발에 통합적 관점이 요구됨을 제시하였다.

The purpose of this study was to learn how problem solving ability and motivation influence on college students' creativity. In order to understand the relationship between various factors and creativity, Learning Competence Test-Cognition, learning Motivation, learning Behavior(LCT-CMB) for college students was used with 1,434 valid responses obtained. Regression analysis were used to analyze the relationship between college experiences and learning outcomes. It was revealed that problem solving ability and motivation demonstrated greater predictive power for creativity in college student. Educators are therefore advised to foster college students' creativity for better educational experiences of students in a way to encourage using problem solving skills, emphasis on their motivation. Consideration of factors from the results is important for designing intervention approaches aimed at improving creativity education.
