범죄는 도시의 정상적인 활동을 위협하는 요인으로서 도시는 시민들의 안전을 위해서 최소한의 질서를 필요로 한다. 모든 국가와 지방자치단체들이 삶의 질을 높이려는 현재의 시점에서 범죄예방은 국민의 안전성을 확보함과 동시에 살기 좋은 도시를 만들기 위한 노력이라고 할 수 있다. 이러한 범죄예방 조치를 수립하기 위해서는 범죄발생에 대한 정확한 통계분석이 선행되어야 한다. 범죄통계는 범죄의 발생특성을 분석하는데는 물론이고, 일정기간의 범죄발생 동향 등을 확인하는데도 필수자료로 간주된다. 그러나 범죄통계는 수사기관에 적발된 범죄사건의 수와 양을 나타낼 뿐이지, 시민들이 느끼는 범죄에 대한 두려움이나 각종 범죄에 대한 인식을 파악하는데는 한계가 있다. 이러한 맥락에서, 본 연구는 도농통합형 중소도시의 하나인 안동시를 분석대상으로 선정하여 시민들이 느끼는 범죄에 대한 두려움을 파악하며, 각종 범죄 및 범죄예방에 대한 인식을 분석하고, 아울러 경찰의 효과적인 범죄예방 대책을 도출하는데 필요한 근거를 제시하였다.
Recently, the rapid industrialization and urbanization phenomena in our modern society is accelerating the trend for increasing diverse social pathology. Rise of serious crimes has already become an especially serious social problem and at the point of threatening our welfare and social order. Police has been playing an important role in maintaining safety of inhabitants of northern district of Kyongbuk. The purpose of this study is to investigate citizens' consciousness of the crime with emphasis on the Andong city in northern district of Kyongbuk. It also intends to provide useful data for criminal victimization prevention strategies. This Study is methodologically based on the literature review, and the survey research(using data from 259 living in Andong city). As statistical analysis, mainly simple frequency analysis were conducted by using SPSS package.
