The article is devoted to a program of teaching Russian as a foreign language at Kazakh Ablai Khan University of International Relations and World Languages. It aims to describe the main features, advantages and disadvantages of learning Russian in the university and in Kazakhstan generally. In the article cultural, economic and linguistic peculiarities of the language situation in Kazakhstan connected to the process of learning Russian as a foreign language have been described. There are also introduced the main characteristics of the study process development.
