'불특정 다수를 향한 범죄'의 사회적 원인에 대한 연구

A Study on the Social Sources of Stranger Violence against Multiple Victims

우리 사회에서는 '불특정 다수를 향한 범죄'가 드물지 않게 일어나고 있으며 사회적 관심의 대상이 되어왔음에도 불구하고 이에 대한 체계적인 분석이 드물었다. 이 연구는 우리나라에서 일어난 실제의 사건 사례 가운데 강력범죄를 탐구대상으로 하여 '불특정 다수를 향한 범죄'의 일반적인 특징을 검토하였으며, 이러한 범죄가 발생하는 사회적 맥락과 원인에 대해서 논의하였다. 이 연구에서는 '불특정 다수를 향한 범죄'를 범죄자와 피해자의 관계 및 피해자의 숫자 등을 포함하는 개념으로 보았으며, '불특정인'과 '다수인'이라는 범주를 동시에 충족하는 범죄를 지칭하는 것으로 보았다. 여기서 '불특정인'은 상대방과 특수한 관계로 한정된 범위에 속하는 사람이 아니라는 의미로, '다수인'은 상당한 정도의 복수의 사람을 나타내는 의미로 생각하였다. 이 연구에서는 불특정 다수를 향한 범죄의 실제 사례에 대한 검토에 이어, 범죄자가 유의미한 상호작용을 갖지 않은 낯선 타인을 왜 공격하는지, 사회적 약자에 대한 편견과 차별이 불특정 다수를 공격하는 행동과 어떤 관련이 있는지, 몇몇 사건에서 나타난 범죄자의 죽고 싶다는 심리를 어떻게 이해해야 하는지, 그리고 사회적 고립이 범죄자의 공격 행동에 어떤 효과를 미치는지 등에 대해 논의하였다.

People feel more fear of crime on stranger violence than non-stranger violence. Among stranger violence, crimes resulting multiple victims make much more fear than any other crimes. The current study reviews several salient cases of such crimes in Korea and discusses typical characteristics and social contexts. The study starts with the examination of the concept of stranger violence against multiple victims. It focuses on the cases in which the criminal and the victims are totally strangers to each other, the victims don't have any seducing nor precipitating factors of the crime, and the motives of criminal are unclear. Those cases can be seen as the extreme of the crime. The study discusses on the social contexts and sources of violent crimes against multiple victims who are strangers to the criminal. The followings are discussed; the reason and meaning of criminal's attack on strangers, the sources and results of social discrimination, prejudice and hate against the disabled or social minorities, the suicidal thinking of the criminals in the scenes of the crimes, and the influence of social isolation on the criminal violence.
