Effects of Silibinin and Resveratrol on Degradation of IκB and Translocation of NF-κB p65 Induced by Tumor Necrosis Factor-α in Cultured Airway Epithelial Cells

We examined whether silibinin and resveratrol affect airway mucin production, degradation of IκB and trans- location of NF-κB p65 induced by TNF-α in NCI-H292 cells. Cells were pretreated with each agent for 30 min and then stim-ulated with TNF-α for 24 h or the indicated periods. The two compounds suppressed TNF-α-induced airway mucin production, degradation of IκB and translocation of NF-κB p65. This result suggests that silibinin and resveratrol can reg-ulate the production of mucin induced by TNF-α through the inactivation of NF-κB pathway in airway epithelial cells.
