朴孝純의 <丙亂日記> 연구

A Study of Park Hyo-soon's Byeongranilgi

이 글은 필자가 새로 발굴한 병자호란 관련 실기인 <丙亂日記>의 서술양상과 내용상의 특징을 살핀 것이다. 첫째, 작가의 생평과 <병란일기>의 서술양상을 살폈다. 작가 박효순은 조선 최초의 통신사 박서생의 후손으로, 병자호란이 발생하자 자원하여 전장에 나가 평안도와 황해도를 중심으로 활약하였다. <병란일기>는 박효순이 병자호란의 전투와 그 전후의 무려 7년 4개월간의 체험을 기록한 일기로, 자신의 전란 참여 체험과 활약을 부각시키기 위해 전란 중의 활동은 매일 기록하고 그 외는 중요사건을 중심으로 간략히 정리하고 있었다. 둘째, <병란일기>의 내용상 특징을 살폈다. <병란일기>는 조정의 고위 관리와 장수의 무능에 대한 비판과 함께 유능한 지방관리의 충절을 대비시키고, 실기의 특성을 반영하듯 자신이 체험한 전란 현장의 사실적 묘사로 생동감을 극대화하고 있었다. 또 언행이 불일치하거나 탐욕에 물든 지방관,일행을 배반한 동지, 목민관에 대해 변함없는 충정을 유지하는 백성 등 전란에 직면한 다양한 인물들의 모습도 조명했다. 특히 임금에 대한 충정과 홀어머니에 대한 효심은 물론, 임금의 포상 대신 고향 비안의 軍額반감을 요청하는 등‘忠孝爲先’의 가훈 계승과 애민ㆍ애향정신도 잘 드러나고 있었다. 따라서 <병란일기>는 병자호란의 전투에 직접 참여한 무관의 진솔한 체험이 생생하게 잘 반영된 실기텍스트로 자리매김할 수 있겠다.

This paper seeks to investigate the characteristics of contents and narrative aspects of Byeongranigi, a documentary regarding the Manchu Invasion of the Joseon Dynasty in 1636. First, the life of the author and narrative aspects of Byeongranigi are examined. The author Park Hyo-soon went to the front when the Manchu War broke out and fought against Jin in Pyeongan-do. Byeongranigi is the diary in which Park Hyo-soon records the battles of the Manchu War and seven years and four months of his experiences before and after the war. To highlight his war experience and active participation in the war, he recorded his activities on a daily basis during the war but summarized other events briefly with focus on some major incidents. Second, the characteristics of contents are identified. Byeongranigi passes criticism on the incompetency of high-ranking officials and generals and shows a contrast with the loyalty of local government officials. It also maximizes the lively experience with realistic portrayal of the war and reflects various aspects of people who were faced with the war. In particular, it reveals his loyalty to the king and filial piety, the family code of conduct that he cherished as well as love of the people and local patriotism as shown in the case where he made requests for the reduction in the number of soldiers to be dispatched from his hometown Bian. Thus, Byeongranigi has its significance as a text with a high literary value in consideration of its narrative aspects and characteristics of contents as a documentary recorded by a military officer who participated in the Manchu War.
