김구용 시의 무장소성 연구

A Study of the Placelessness in Kim Kuyong's Poetry

본 논문은 20세기 말에 발전한 담론인 장소 개념에 입각해 김구용 시를 분석한 것이다. 추상적인 공간에 인간의 실천이 가미되어 삶의 내용과 의미가 실릴 때 장소가 된다는 장소론은 장소성이나 장소 정체성으로 설명된다. 이것은 거주의 경험에 의해 장소에 대한 친밀감과 유대가 생길 때 가능한 것이다. 하지만 산업화와 도시화가 진행되면서 전통적인 장소성이 불가능해지고 장소가 그 역할을 제대로 할 수 없게 되는 무장소성이 등장하게 된다. 장소의 상실이라고도 불리는 무장소성은 다양한 원인과 양상으로 전개된다. 김구용의 산문시는 특유의 산문성으로 인해 서사적 공간 설정이 많은데, 대부분이 전통적 장소성보다는 무장소성을 띠고 있는 것으로 보인다. 본 논문은 김구용 시의 무장소성의 양상을 네가지로 살펴보고 있다. 전쟁으로 인한 폐허와 혼란이 보여주는 장소의 파괴, 상품화된 성이 모든 장소를 침범하는 것으로 유추할 수 있는 부조리한 장소화, 그리고 문명화, 획일화되는 도시에서의 장소 상실감과 이동하거나 스쳐 지나가는 것에 불과해진 장소의 일시성과 불안정성 등이다. 김구용 시의 무장소성은 불합리하고 부조리한 현대적 삶과 사유를 해명하는 유효한 기제가 될 수 있다.

This study is analyzing Kim Kuyong's poems with the concept of the ‘place/placelessness’ which has been developed by geographic academics since 1970s. The “place” is only possible and different from the undefined space on the condition that some extent familiarities and emotional ties exist. Rapid industrialization and urbanization made the traditional placeness increasingly impossible and made a way to placelessness, in which the place hardly functions. Kim Kuyong's prose poems presuppose kinds of narrative spaces, most of which are understood having the placelessness rather than the traditional placeness. This study investigates the four aspects of the placelessness in Kim Kuyong: the destruction of the places by the war, the deformation of the place to the level of absurdity by the commercialization of sex, the feeling of placelessness triggered by the standardization of urban landscapes, and the ephemeral and unstable nature of traffic spots. The placelessness in Kim Kuyong is understood seminal for the elucidation of the otherness of modern life.
