An Exploratory Study on Developing a Emotional Counseling Model for Gifted Children

본 연구의 목적은 영재의 정서적 특성을 알아보고 영재가 올바른 정서를 함양할 수 있도록 돕는 영재 정서 상담 모형 개발을 위한 이론적 탐색을 하는 것이다. 국내외 선행 연구들을 분석해본 결과, 영재의 강렬하고 민감한 정서적 특징으로 인하여 정서적 취약성에 대한 논란이 야기되고 있다. 많은 연구자들은 영재가 정서적 취약성으로 인하여 많은 어려움이 있으며 이를 위한 특별한 상담 서비스를 받아야 한다고 주장하고 있다. 이에 영재의 정서 발달에 도움을 줄 수 있는 영재 정서 상담 모형을 개발하기 위한 탐색으로, 선행 연구된 영재 상담 모형들에서 적용할 수 있는 내용을 탐색해 보았다. 원리차원에서는 정서의 인지 이론, 가족 체계적 접근, 발달적 상담, 정서 심리적 자원에 근거한 상담의 원리가 적용 되어 개발되어야 한다. 상담자와 내담자의 역할차원에서는 상담자와 내담자가 모두 능동적이고 적극적으로 상담에 참여 할 수 있도록 개발되어야 한다. 과정차원에서는 영재의 심리적 정보의 수집, 부모 면접, 내담자 관찰, 상담 과정에 열린 마음을 가진 상담 모형이 개발되어야 한다. 기법차원에서는 영재가 자신의 정서를 바르게 인식하고 정서를 경험하는 연습을 통해 자신의 강점과 탄력성에 초점을 둘 수 있도록 다양한 기법들을 활용한 상담 모형이 개발되어야 한다. 영재의 정서적 특징과 상담 모형 탐색을 통해 도출된 적용 내용을 바탕으로 하여 건강한 영재 정서 발달을 도와 줄 수 있는 영재 정서 상담 모형이 개발되어야 할 것이다.

The present study is intended to characterize the emotional issues of gifted children and explore the development of a emotional counseling model for gifted children for their emotional development. Extensive literature review and analysis found lots of disputes over gifted children's emotional vulnerability resulting from their intense and sensitive emotional characteristics. Many researchers argue gifted children have substantial difficulties due to their emotional vulnerability, and thus have to receive special counseling services. In this context, this study explores the development of a counseling model for gifted children conducive to their emotional development by searching for applicable counseling models discussed in previous studies. In principle, the rationale for the model development should involve the cognitive theory of emotion, family systems approach, developmental counseling and emotional psychological resources. In terms of counselor-client roles, the model should be developed in a way that both can actively and willingly participate in counseling. In terms of the process, the counseling model to be developed should maintain an open mind toward collecting information of gifted children's psychology, parent interviews, client observation and counseling process. In terms of techniques, the model to be developed should make use of diverse techniques helping gifted children focus on their strengths and resilience through right perception and experience of their emotion. A emotional counseling model for gifted children should be developed for the benefit of their emotional development based on the findings elicited here by exploring the emotional characteristics of gifted children and the specification of a desirable counseling model.
