This study has chosen the stress hormone (cortisol) and depression as the dependent variable and psychological variable, respectively, and selected 38 women going throughmenopause (14: MLD group, 12: AMLD group, 12: control group). In terms of testprocedures, they were given intensive massages to their backs and stomachs for 30-40minutes, 3 times a week for 8 weeks. The AMLD group, meanwhile, was given a mixture of lavender, clary sage and geranium oils, which are effective in easing unpleasantphysiological and psychological symptoms of menopause. The oils were mixed and used justlike the MLD treatment. In terms of data collection, the stress hormone and psychologicalvariables were measured three times (Before beginning treatment, 4th week and 8th week)through experiment and questionnaire survey. To keep the questionnaire on psychological variables valid and reliable before the experiment, a factor analysis was conducted with 102menopausal women, and the validity and reliability of measuring instruments were secured. Before the experiment, a homogeneity test was performed on the sampled subjects. In this study, the experiment design includes the design of group factors that were comprised ofthe MLD group, AMLD group and control group through the repeated measures (3x3) which consisted of pre-, mid- and post-measurements. In terms of data processing, a two-way repeated-measures ANOVA was performed to identify specific differences in the average of the stress hormone and psychological variables. According to the analysis, a statistically significant decline in stress hormone (cortisol) levels was observed in 8-week MLD and AMLD treatments. No difference was found between the MLD and AMLD groups, while a statistically significant decline in depression level was detected in both groups.
