A Study on a Punk Makeup of Modern Club Culture

With recently prevalent club culture which has emerged as young people's new culturecode, a punk makeup is a close element to complete a punk style and the strongest means to raise the belonging of club culture. The purpose of this study is to analyze external characteristics and internal meaning of punk makeup shown in young generation's club culture through club culture as sub-culture, domestic and foreign club culture, a punk makeup, and a punk style in modern culture and art. For study methods, empirical study based on literature review classified external characteristics of a punk makeup into a shape, color, and materials in domestic and foreign club fashion and internal meaning into plurality, sensuality, masquerade, pleasure, and decadence. As a result, it was found that the external characteristics of a punk makeup of club culture was expressed as emphasis on, enlargement of, or exaggeration of eye shape with a transformed thick eye line, natural achromatic or bright colorful color, and a style using many materials such as shining metal accessories or stickers. The internal meaning was represented as compromising and mixing plurality, sexy and provocative sensuality, masquerade expressing one's desire through body decoration or disguise masks, pleasure expressing a witted image by introducing mischievous and comic technique, and decadence expressing a stimulating and sensational image.
