Metaphorical Conceptualization of family relationship: zoomorphic model

The article deals with the metaphorical conceptualization peculiarities of the family relationship sphere through the source-sphere«Animals». Research is led on the basis of electronic text subcorpus including Russian texts written during the The author selects and analyses metaphorical contexts according to the cognitive theory of metaphor, finds a common ground for metaphorical transfer connotations of metaphorical word usage visualizes appearance, behavior and particular way of speaking peculiar to people involved in interrelations of the family. Research reveals a correspondence between metaphorical meanings of words and expressions and traditional features of Russian women. Special attention is paid to the active role played by the wife in her family life and her attitude towards her husband. The article examines individual zoomorphic metaphors created by the authors as well as traditional metaphorical symbols with ambiguous connotations. Much attention is also given to gender aspects of interrelations of the family metaphorized by means of zoonyms which identify an archetypal opposition between males and females and its relevant characteristics.
