The Vitality and Characteristics of Feminity Manifested in Tao Te Ching

이 논문에서 살핀 중심 개념은 노자가 자신의 도가 여성성을 이상적인 형태로 표상한다는 것이다. 노자는 드러내놓고 도에 관하여 말하는 어려움을 토로한다. 따라서 노자는 도를 잘 보여줄 뿐 아니라 표상할 수 있는 어떤 것을 우리의 일상생활 속에서 찾는다. 이것이 바로 여성성이다. 노자의 철학 체계에서 여성성은 이 세상에서 도의 이상적인 표상이고 드러냄으로 그려진다. 여성성이 내포하는 특별한 성품은 천하의 어머니인 도를 닮아 갖게 되는 생명의 잉태와 출산의 능력이다. 그러나 이 신적인 능력은 겸손함과 유연함과 같은 여성성의 다른 탁월한 특성들을 동반할 때 더욱 생산적이고 완전해 진다. 그럼에도 노자의 여성성은 그가 보는 모든 도가 운영하고 다스리는 존재의 방식이 상호성인 반대의 것과 상관적 관계 안에 있기 때문에 군림하고 배제하는 이념은 될 수 없다. 이 조화로운 혼용에서 여성성은 반대의 존재를 배제할만한 가능성은 전혀 남겨 두지 않게 된다. 군림과 배제는 단순히 여성성의 본성을 거스른다.

The main idea explored in this article is that Lao-tzu's Tao is represented in feminity as its ideal form. He openly expressed the difficulty to speak of Tao. Since he could not pinpoint the universal principle, Tao, he designed his strategy to choose something, which could represent Tao as well as show it well, among our daily life experiences. It was feminity. In Lao-tzu's philosophical system femininity is depicted as an ideal representation and manifestation of Tao in the natural world. The peculiar characteristic contained in feminity is conceptive and prolific power, which resemble the role of Tao as the mother of the universe. However, this divine power becomes more prolific and perfect when it accompanies other excellent feminine characteristics such as humbleness and flexibility. However. Lao-tzu's feminity cannot be a dictating and dominating ideal since every existence maintained and governed by Tao is in the relation with the opposite existence in terms of reciprocity. In this harmonious mixture it won't leave any room for the probability of excluding the opposite being; it is simply contrary to her nature.
