혼종성과 문화정체성에 관한 소고

Notes on Hybridity and Cultural identity: Reading Brazil 'Tropicália' Music

세계화는 이러저러한 본질주의 강화를 포함하고 있다. 심지어 세계화의 동질화하는 경향에 대항한 다문화주의 조차 각자의 정체성의 공존이라는 점에서 그러하다고 지적된다. 문제는 본질주의가 극단적인 폭력으로 흐를 수 있다는 점이다. 이러한 맥락에 비춰 봤을 때 본질주의에서 벗어난 혼종성은 긍정적 역할을 할 수 있을 것이다. 무엇보다도 혼종성이 우세한 문화나 권력에 대한 저항을 함의하고 있다는 점에서 더욱 그럴 것이다. 이 글은 이 같은 의미에서 혼종성의 긍정적 함의를 정리해 보고, 혼종성을 바탕으로 했을 때 상정할 수 있는 문화정체성이 무엇인지를 다룬다. 그리고 이 논의를 바탕으로 브라질의 트로피칼리아 운동의 음악분야를 읽어 볼 것이다. 트로피칼리아는 군부 독재의 획일화와 국가 중심주의, 팝과 록음악의 세계화 속에서 혼종을 통해 이 둘 모두에 대해 저항을 수행하면서도 문화정체성을 형성했다는 점에서 위와 같은 혼종성 논의의 적합한 텍스트가 될 것이다. 마지막으로 혼종성이 사회, 문화, 정치적 긍정성을 온전히 얻기 위해서 고려해야 할 것들을 제안하고자 한다.

Globalization bring out strengthening of essentialism of one kind or another.(for instance, the homogenization trend of globalization and multiculturalism etc) The best problem is that essentialism can make trouble, including extreme violence. I focus on hybridity slip out of the essentialism. Furthermore, hybridity implies resistance to the dominant culture and power more than anything else. I think that they are a positive implications of hybridity. In this paper, I will check what is a cultural identity that can be seen together the positive implications of hybridity. After that, I tries to reading music of Tropicalism movement of Brazil in this sense. I would like to propose that it should be considered for hybridity get completely social, cultural and political positives at the end.
