This study analyzes the English vocabulary used in animation films in corpus-based linguistic methods and assesses appropriateness for English teaching material for young learners. For this purpose, several concordance tools were used to yield the vocabulary scale and comparisons were made among vocabulary lists. The results are as follows: 1) The scales of the vocabulary used in the films far exceeded those of elementary and secondary school English curriculum; 2) Like Brown or BNC corpora, articles, pronouns, be-verbs, prepositions, and to-infinitive were most frequently used, but main characters and 'no' are overused in that they may represent conflicts and rejection; 3) The frequency of the five parts of speech appears to be greatly influenced by the movie's theme; 4) The movie word list matches up to 86.18% with GSL/AWL lists; 5) Compared to the recommended word lists for elementary and secondary curriculum, the target word list matches 78.99% with the former, and 7.99% with the latter; 6) With a vocabulary of over 6,000 plus proper nouns, 93.21% of the tokens would be familiar to children watching the movie. In summation, the vocabulary level is higher overall in movies than that of elementary and secondary school curriculums. Serious consideration should be given, therefore, when choosing media and film materials with which to teach.
