The photodegradation of pefloxacin, photolabile fluoroquinolone antibacterial agent, was studied. In the presence of N2, photodegradation of pefloxacin was suppressed. The singlet oxygen and free radical generated in the reaction media proceeded photochemical reaction. The photodegradation of peflxacin was sensitized by benzophenone, a triplet state sensitizer.
