독도 관련 국내 언론기사의 분석

An Analysis of News Reports on Dokdo of the Korean Media*

최근 들어 독도 영유권과 관련된 고지도의 발견이 많아지면서 언론에서 보도되는 기사들도 점차 증가하고 있다. 이러한 기사들은 독도의 역사적 權原에 대한 대중들의 이해를 제고시키는 역할을 하는 긍정적인 측면을 지 니고 있지만 기사 내용의 오류로 인해 대중들에게 잘못된 인식을 심어주는 부정적 기능도 지니고 있다. 연구를 통 해 파악된 문제점으로는 먼저 지도에 대한 전문가의 철저한 고증없이 제보자의 견해를 따라 일방적으로 보도하는 행태를 들 수 있다. 이 결과 여러 기사에서 사실과 다른 오보들이 발견되었다. 아울러 이전에 이미 공개되었고 학 계에서도 널리 알려진 지도들을 마치 새롭게 발견된 것처럼 보도하는 행태도 볼 수 있었다. 일본에서 제작된 『신 찬조선국전도』의 경우가 대표적이다. 특히 보도 기사가 객관성을 상실하고 지나치게 국수주의적 편향을 지니는 문제점도 여러 언론 기사에서 파악되었다. 전통적인 일본의 전도에 나타나는 ‘韓唐’을 독도로 해석하는 것이 대표 적인 사례이다. 민족감정을 앞세운 국수주의적 해석은 영토문제에 대한 대중들의 온전한 이해에 걸림돌이 될 수 있기 때문에 신중할 필요가 있다

Recently, the news reports on the sovereignty right of Dokdo have been gradually increased in line with the discovery of related antique maps. While such reports have positive aspects in increasing an understanding of the people on the historic authoritative source of Dokdo, these also have some negative functions to give wrong awareness to the public due to errors of contents of reports. Errors found in the news reports include unilateral press media according to the opinion of informants without strict historical investigation by experts on maps. As a result, incorrect reports were found in various news reports. In addition, there were some cases that maps already widely known to the public or in the academic circle have been reported as if they were found newly. The typical example is Sinchan joseongukjeondo. In particular, there are also many news reports that lost subjectivity of the news reports and that had biased attitude toward nationalistic ideology. It is a typical example to misinterpret ‘Handang’ in the traditional Japanese general map as Dokdo. Accordingly, it must be very cautious because such nationalistic interpretation with the national sentiment might be an obstacle for full understanding of the people on the territorial issue.
